Carbon Reduction Program
Supremex being Canada’s only national envelope producer with 9 manufacturing locations across the country, we leverage our ability to produce in local markets to mitigate both unnecessary freight charges to our customers as well as to significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with the distribution of our products. Where possible, we will challenge ourselves to determine the best possible solution for group deliveries on your orders to improve freight charges and reduce emissions.
Where longer haul deliveries are necessary, Supremex makes every effort to challenge its suppliers to continually improve their freight and route optimization to reduce emissions where logically possible.
Carton Return Program
In 2008, Supremex developed and launched its Carton Return & Reuse Program with the goal to reduce the number of corrugate waste going to landfills. Many of our high volume customers have switched over to reusable cartons. In one case a customer that uses approximately 57,000 cartons per year for the packaging of its envelopes was able to reduce corrugate waste by 67% over a 12-month period thereby diverting 53,000lbs of waste corrugate from landfill to reuse.
“PLEASE RECYCLE” Program
As part of our environmental commitment and in support of an Envelope Manufacturers Association initiative, Supremex offers its customers the option to print “PLEASE RECYCLE” at the back of their printed envelopes at no additional charge. This initiative is intended to help increase overall consumer awareness and drive up recovery rates .The intent of the program is make more paper available to recycling mills and thereby reducing the need for virgin fibre from our forests.
Waste Management
As a major objective, Supremex aims to the ongoing reduction of its waste within its production cycle as well as the optimization of their recycling.
A comprehensive waste analysis helped us recognize the benefits from recycling opportunities and helped us identify recyclable products that can be diverted from landfill sites.
Our waste management program helps us to continuously evaluate our needs to ensure our material recovery program exceeds our pervious benchmark. We conduct a comprehensive assessment of this program regularly in order to improve our recycling procedures and equipment.
Supremex recycles 95% of its waste which is successfully diverted from landfills.
Retrofit Lighting
Supremex has implemented a highly efficient lighting system in its principal production sites to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas. This new system uses state of the art automation and occupancy sensing technology along with the latest in ballast and lamp technology. We have already benefited from a significant reduction in lighting energy use.
