Recycling

We utilize a number of environmentally friendly products and processes in our manufacturing. Below are some highlights.

Waste Paper Recycling
  • We use state-of-the-art paper recovery, sorting and bailing system to maximize the amount of waste paper returned to the mill for recycling. Waste paper is extracted at the machine, transported via vacuum and sorted automatically into bins. The paper is separated into bales of "white", "brown" and "mixed" and is then sold to a waste paper merchant for reuse in the paper making process.

  • Paper dust is trapped via filter and water, transported to a recycling centre as "sludge", and then re-used in the paper manufacturing process.

  • Virtually all paper and paper fibres are recycled, and maximum effort is committed to ensuring that a minimal amount ends up in landfill.

Paper

  • Some of our recycled papers are EcoLogo approved. EcoLogo recycled papers contain at least 50% recycled paper and contain a minimum of 10% post consumer waste.

Adhesives

  • Front and back seal adhesives are both water soluble. They are easily removed from the envelope during recycling. A new "Easi-Clean" window patch adhesive has been developed and is now being used in our plants. It is resin based and is useful in separating the window material from the envelope in the fine paper recycling process.

Inks

  • All of our web machines use water based inks. These inks are safer and easier to handle, and most importantly, they use a renewable resource.

  • All of our Jet printing presses have switched to ecologically sound vegetable based inks from traditional petroleum based inks. Vegetable based inks are also safer and easier to handle and are a renewable resource (canola or soya-bean oils).

Window Material

  • Window patch material is a poly-based product. Our window patches cannot be recycled as fine paper, however, the patch can be separated from the envelope during the recycling process.
  • Glassine, another window material, is a derivative or paper and can be recycled as such. It should be noted however, that Glassine has a limited shelf life and is subject to potential rejection by Canada Post.

"No Tape" Bulk Cartons

  • We offer an innovative one-piece "No Tape" carton which folds together and apart without the use of tape, thereby enabling RETURN and REUSE of the same carton.
